Tufting Workshop? What's that all about?

Tufting Workshop? What's that all about?

Ever wondered how tufted rugs and wall hangings are made? At Woolly Mammoth Tufting Club, hosted at the Lucas Miles Atelier in La Herradura, we invite you to discover this exciting craft in a relaxed, creative setting.

Whether you’re a complete beginner or simply looking for a fun, hands-on activity, our tufting workshops are designed to spark inspiration, teach new skills, and send you home with a piece of handmade art you’ll be proud of.

What is Tufting?

Tufting is a textile technique that uses a tufting gun to punch yarn through fabric, creating loops or cut piles that form patterns, textures, and images. Originally developed for carpet making, tufting has found new life as a playful art form. From colourful rugs to bold wall hangings, tufted pieces add warmth and personality to any home.

No prior experience is needed — we’ll guide you through every step.

The Workshop Experience

Here’s what to expect when you join a tufting workshop in La Herradura:

 1. Welcome & Introduction
Settle in with coffee or tea, meet the group, and explore your design ideas.

 2. Designing Your Piece
With our guidance, you’ll refine your design and transfer it onto the frame.

 3. Getting Started with the Tufting Gun
We’ll demonstrate how the tufting gun works, share tips and tricks, and give you time to practice until you feel confident.

 4. Tufting in Action
Choose your colours, bring your design to life, and enjoy the rhythm of tufting with plenty of encouragement and support.

 5. Finishing Touches
We’ll show you how to trim, shave, glue, and back your piece depending on how you want to display it. Every participant goes home a happy tufter!
